Frequently Asked Questions

What’s a neuromodulator?

Neuromodulator is the technical term for Botox, Dysport and Nuceiva. The chemical compound actually being injected is Botulinum Toxin A. When you are treated with it, it signals your muscle to relax, thus stopping the dynamic movement that will eventually create lines and wrinkles.

We carry these 3 brands to offer you the most personalized service for your needs.

Does Botox hurt?

Getting a neuromodulator injection isn’t a painful procedure. Neuromodulators are administered with one of the tiniest needles on the market; a 32-30 gauge. You will feel a pin prick or ‘mosquito bite’ when the need is injected. To help numb the area, many clients and doctors use ice on the area of treatment.

After your Botox treatment, you may notice some redness, swelling and bruising in the injection areas. These symptoms typically fade after a few hours.

How old do you have to be to get a treatment?

Neuomodulator and filler treatments are for everyone… meaning every adult! Some clients start as young as their early twenties, while others don’t try neuromodulators or fillers until their fifties. If you have questions about whether neuromodulators are right for you, book an initial consultation at our studio in Kits and develop a plan with one of our medical professionals.

What’s the difference between neuromodulators and dermal fillers?

Both neuromodulators and dermal fillers work wonders for your face, but in very different ways.

Neuromodulators temporarily put your muscles to sleep softening the lines that naturally form over time. As we age, our skin loses volume and elasticity allowing lines to gradually set in. By putting some facial muscles to ‘sleep’ we prevent them from creating long term folds in our skin.

Dermal fillers are helping to shape and boost our skin with boost of hyaluronic acid. When you inject dermal fillers, you will instantly notice smoother, revitalized skin with less visible wrinkles and lines. Dermal fillers come in a variety of textures depending on the area of the face you would like to treat - softer for the lips, firmer for the cheekbones.

When dermal fillers and neuromodulators are used together, that’s the real magic. Try the Love Story and see a softer, more refreshed you!

Does filler look fake?

We’ve all seen the overfilled Hollywood images of years past, so dermal filler has unfortunately gotten a bad reputation. Dermal filler is an incredible tool when it comes to graceful aging by creating that fresh, hydrated youthful volume we were born with. Working with the right texture of dermal filler and the right injector, you can achieve subtle, natural results. At Life Story, we are not about reinventing you, but working with you to achieve YOUR goals.

How long does Botox last?

Neuromodulators will last anywhere from 2-6 months. On average we see 3-4 months for our clients. The timeline for your neuromodulator treatment will depend on how strong your muscles are and how fast your metabolism is. Book an initial consultation at our studio in Kits and develop a plan with one of our Doctors.

How soon will I see the results of my Botox treatment?

Initial effects will show within the first 3 to 10 days, with peak effect on the muscle seen at 14 days following your treatment.

How long does Dermal Filler last?

Dermal fillers vary in how long they last depending on the client and the type of filler used. 6-18 months is the range we commonly see with fillers. There are many types of dermal fillers, depending on what area of your face you’re treating. A softer texture will restore volume in your cheeks and lips, while a firmer filler will help to build shape in your jaw and cheekbones.

How soon will I see the results of my filler treatment?

Initial effects will show immediately, with full results after 2 weeks.

Is sunscreen really that important?

Sunscreen is the number one easiest way for everyone to care for their skin. Both UVA and UVB rays can lead to skin cancer, discoloration, and wrinkles over time. The harmful sun rays, even on cloudy days, can cause damage to your elastin, collagen and skin cells. Even if your skin is darker and doesn’t burn, it doesn’t mean you won’t be affected by the sun’s powerful rays.

Make sure you choose a sunscreen that has ‘broad spectrum’, meaning it protects you from both UVA and UVB rays. An SPF of 30 or higher will ensure that your skin is fully protected, even on cloudy days. Don’t forget to reapply!

Do I need anesthetic or freezing for treatments?

When receiving a neuromodulator treatment like Botox or Dysport, most clients do not require freezing. The needles used for aesthetic treatments are some of the smallest gauge needles made (31 gauge). If you are quite sensitive, we often use ice to temporarily freeze the spot we are treating.

When it comes to dermal fillers, we typically use a topical anesthetic to numb the area we are about to treat. Areas like the lips have millions of nerve endings, making them one of the most sensitive parts of your body.

What is Sculptra?

We all lose elasticity and collagen as we age. Sculptra tackles the root cause of skin aging. Unlike other methods that focus solely on contouring or adding volume, Sculptra works deep beneath the skin, stimulating your body's own collagen production. By addressing collagen loss, Sculptra naturally increases or restores volume, resulting in a fuller and firmer appearance without any unnatural changes to your facial contours.

Unlike temporary solutions, Sculptra treatments can provide noticeable results that endure for over two years, with Sculptra, you can expect a subtle and natural transformation over a series of treatments. This gradual approach ensures that your youthful look emerges gradually, leaving you with a refreshed appearance that appears entirely authentic. The gradual nature of Sculptra treatments also allows for customization, ensuring that your desired outcome aligns perfectly with your individual preferences and needs.

How much Sculptra does a person need?

On average, Sculptra is injected in 2 sessions. For optimal results, each session is 1-2 syringes and the sessions are spaced by approximately 8 weeks.

What are Skin Boosters?

Skin boosters are primarily composed of hyaluronic acid and are injected all over your face to rehydrate your skin focusing on fine lines, wrinkles and dehydration. The skin naturally becomes more dehydrated and fine lines become more visible as we age. Skin boosters can help chase these away. The injection is much more superficial than dermal fillers restoring the surface texture to a more firm hydrated youthful finish.

How do Skin Boosters and Sculptra differ from Dermal Filler?

Dermal fillers focus on restoring volume loss, contouring and lifting, augmenting features and lifting lines.

Unlike dermal fillers, skin boosters are applied more superficially all over your face to rehydrate your skin focusing on fine lines, wrinkles and dehydration. The skin naturally becomes more dehydrated and fine lines become more visible as we age. Skin boosters can help chase these away.

Why did you open in Kits?

The founders Andrea and Sara noticed a gap in the market in the beauty world. Where can someone go for a consistent, totally bespoke, precise treatment in a beautiful environment and for fair pricing. Life Story was born.

Since both Founders live with their families in Vancouver, staying local made sense. The team at Life Story can get to know their clients and tweak the business as needed. When it came to selecting a location, Kits was the natural choice. Being close to global brands that value self care and wellness was ideal.
